2 Years Later...Coffee is Still King and I’m Back, Older & Hopefully Wiser
Hello! It’s been a minute. No wait, it’s been 2 years!
A lot has changed in 2 years (cue dramatic, but subtle, facial expressions). I am currently writing on Medium, where I am happily monetized. I write about everything from pain management, to nutrition and exercise, to traveling in Canada. I muse about bittersweet moments on New Year’s Eve, being married a long time, and of course, drinking coffee. Please follow me on Medium after you read about how coffee keeps you young. You can also hear my "I'm back" message in the video below.
New URL
Another change: "Drinking-coffee-all-the-time" is now www.drinkingcoffeealldaylong.com. REMEMBER TO USE WWW!
I missed this platform and the exclusive focus on coffee as a portal for life itself. This blog is not intended to be commercial, nor am I attempting to monetize it. It is purely a labor of love. In the past, even when I had no views, I cherished the content that I had created. (Of course, I didn't realize that until I lost the URL.) Now, I'm re-committing to publishing twice a month on this platform. I'm two years older, but no less passionate about drinking coffee all day long, well into the night.
Speaking of getting older, new research shows that drinking coffee keeps you younger, longer.
Researchers in Portugal at the University of Coimbra did a
meta-analysis of more than 50 studies examining the effect of coffee on mortality, across a wide range of
ages, ethnicities, and lifestyles. They found that moderate coffee consumption throughout
life extends lifespan, on average, by 1.8 years. That’s 22.6 months! Imagine
all those fun Friday nights, drinking coffee, playing Scrabble, and flirting.
What is the Mode of Action?
Though the overall mechanism of action is not fully understood, evidence suggests that multiple factors contribute to coffee's healthiness. Caffeine and chlorogenic acids help preserve the main biological processes responsible for the aging process. It improves genomic instability, molecular damage, and metabolic impairments. Also, coffee improves stress adaptation and decreases inflammation.
These mechanisms, in turn, reduce the risk of various cancers (liver, breast, colorectal), as well as reducing the risk of Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, type 2 diabetes, and depression.
The Gift of Spring is Upon Us
Considering that coffee is the second most consumed beverage
after water worldwide, it’s all about the numbers. We collectively consume 2.25 billion
cups of coffee a day, and drinking coffee on a regular basis can bestow an extra
687 days of healthy life. Emphasis on “healthy”!
Speaking of healthy, who’s playing pickleball this spring? Everyone
brings coffee to pickleball, especially in the early morning and when
late-night playing is on the roster. Drink coffee and stay strong!
ENJOY SPRING!
